Pizzeria Style Pizza Sauce

This delicious pizza sauce is brought to you by Red Star Yeast, and I am happy to give you my honest opinion about it.

Yesterday, I sent you a recipe for gluten free pizza, and this is the flavorful sauce I used on it. Thick, rich, with a perfect balance of herbs and parmesan, it will remind you of your very favorite Italian restaurant.

This sauce would be excellent on pasta or as dipping sauce for breadsticks, too. It goes together quickly, and the flavor is worth the extra few seconds it takes.

Gluten Free Pizza

This lovely pizza was brought to you by Red Star Yeast

If you're staying in or hosting for New Year's, I can't think of anything better to serve than homemade pizza. And if you or any of your guests are gluten free, you're going to love having this pizza to share.

Bring in the New Year with the delicious aroma of homemade pizza!

Gluten Free Pizza

Makes one 15 to 16" pizza, or two 8" pizzas.

Crust Ingredients:
  • 3 cups gluten free multipurpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon xanthan gum (if your GF flour does not already contain it)
    1½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 and 1/4 cups water (divided use)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2¼ teaspoons Red Star Quick Rise Yeast
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (optional)
dried parsley or Italian herbs (optional)

Sauce
Toppings

1. Combine flour, xanthan gum (if using), and salt into medium bowl. Whisk to combine very well.

2. In bowl of a stand mixer, combine 1 cup flour mixture and yeast. Mix well.

3. Combine 1 cup water and oil; heat to 120º to 130ºF; add to flour mixture. Blend at low speed until moistened; beat 2 minutes at medium speed.

4. Add remaining flour mixture and the rest of the water, 1 tablespoon at a time as necessary, to make a soft dough. Mix at medium speed for 2 minutes.

5. Preheat oven to 400ºF. Lightly flour fingers and work surface with gluten free flour. Turn dough out onto work surface and flatten and shape as desired. You can use a floured rolling pin to get the round shape started, if you like. This dough works best patted or rolled out as a fairly thin crust pizza. Transfer dough to greased pizza pans or baking sheets.

6. Spread prepared sauce on pizza. Add toppings and shredded cheese as desired. Do not allow dough to rise. Brush outer edges of dough with melted butter and sprinkle lightly with dried parsley or Italian herbs, if desired.

7. Bake at 400 degrees until edges are crisp and light golden brown and cheese is melted: about 20 minutes for 8 inch pizzas, about 35 minutes for a large 15 to 16" pizza. Remove from oven and serve immediately. Store leftovers in the refrigerator. Pizza reheats best in the oven or in a skillet.
