Praline Sauce

Pecan Praline Sauce is so easy and so good. It really does taste like a rich, delicious praline. Serve over pound cake, pumpkin bread, banana bread, or ice cream. I may have drizzled a little over oatmeal.

Pour this lusciousness into a pint or half pint jar, add a ribbon, and you've got a sweet gift to share with someone.

Pecan Praline Sauce  Print
Makes 2 and 1/2 cups

2 and 1/4 cups light brown sugar (packed)
1 (12 oz.) can evaporated milk
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup chopped pecans (lightly toasted, if desired)

1. In a medium saucepan over medium low heat, combine brown sugar, evaporated milk, butter, and salt.
2. Stir constantly and bring sauce to a simmer/low boil, then cook for about 3 minutes or until sauce is smooth and syrupy.
3. Remove pan from heat, and stir in vanilla and pecans. Serve warm or at room temperature. Refrigerate leftovers- it will keep in the fridge for a couple of weeks. Sauce will be thick when cold. Microwave for a few seconds before using if refrigerated.

  1. This is going to make the perfect gift for Amara's other Grandpa! He loves pecan pie and I always send one with Amara (actually she helps make them now) to any holiday dinner. This would be so perfect for all those in between times! May just have to make some for me, too! Thanks Joy!

  22. This looks awesome! What is the expected shelf life for a refrigerated product? I saw some notes above for people wanting to give as gifts for the holidays so I am trying plan a timeframe to make a big batch. Also, can this be water bathed for an extended shelf life? Thanks

  33. Oh my gosh, I wish I would have seen this yesterday. We had the family over for a 'Back to School' ice cream bash. I made homemade caramel and hot fudge sauce. The hot fudge was delicious, but the caramel was too hard. I even made it twice. The first time it said to cook for 11 min. It was way too hard. I made it again and cooked it for 6 min. Not bad, but when it hit the cold ice cream it became way too sticky. This looks perfect! Pinned. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,

    1. Hi, Jen! Thanks for letting me know you tried it and enjoyed it- it’s one of my very favorites! :) I have not made big batches. While I can’t think of a reason why it wouldn’t work, you and I know that recipes sometimes react oddly when you double or triple them. I think I personally would try doubling it, and seeing if that turned out ok, before going to a larger amount than that. If you make a larger batch, please let me know how it turns out for you! And yes, the brown sugar is supposed to be packed. Thanks for coming by, and Merry Christmas! :)
